I am actually really excited about my final project. I went to all the venues I wanted to use in my website and took lots of pictures. I also made a decision that I wanted to keep it really simple. I don’t want too many flashy pictures colours etc I wanted the words to make the most impact. I was going to put a picture of myself up but I think that the little blurb I wrote was adequate. I kind of want to remain as anonymous as possible. The original idea was to appeal to people like me but the more I thought about it the less I thought it would make me appear biased.

I have been thinking a lot about how all of my classes are correlating. Things I have been learning in Concept Development have carried over to Contemporary Legal Issues and Music Style Overview. When this semester first started I didn’t see how it would work out. I see the method in RMITs madness for once.

An Amazing event that is coming up featuring a few of my favourite local Melbourne acts, Trust Us and On & Off.
Trust Us reminds me of an early Presets (pre-Apocalypso) with some evocative Italian lyrics thrown over the top.
On & Off consist of two guys called Jelly & Dutchie who have an eclectic way of brining old school house tracks together with some loungy tunes and somehow making it work.

SMD.. MASSIVE disappointment

Ok, so I must admit, I received the latest Simian Mobile Disco album Temporary Pleasure as a gift (a very very thoughtful one albeit that) but what they have served up this time is by far the most disappointing album I have heard, hmm, ever. One of my all time favourite tracks is Sleep Deprivation, I like to call it my “walking” song. No matter what mood I’m those layers hit the spot. However, since Attack Decay Sustain Release, SMD seems to have forgotten this basic principles of electro music. Audacity of a Huge was the most audaciously inconsistent lame attempt at crossing over to the mainstream. I know Simian has been on a journey of sorts trying to find a genre but they will lose their true fanbase if they keep this up. So instead of trying to get something across to the masses and become another Cut Copy they should go back to what makes them so unique and admired, their amazing sense of melodic harmonies.

One of the DJ’s I actually loved to listen to when I first moved to Europe was American. DJ Greg Haus made some of the most fun sets I have heard. Very eclectic mixes that encompassed a lot of different genre remixes. He has been on the scene for over a decade but never ceases to amaze me with what he finds often whilst it is still not overheard on the airwaves.

This is the CD cover I created using photoshop…
I tweeked and merged layers of the original foud at Flickr (as the task was told to do so). By changing the contrast and opacity I found that the layers complimented each other quite well.

One of the more successful Australian blogs is called
_Loobylu_. It is a creative collection of blogs by a Melbourne mother called Claire Robertson. She describes it as a scrapbook and that is the best way to describe the content. Ranging from everything from recipes, how to grow vegetables and tips on sewing it appeals to the inner housewife in everyone. It was nominated for the best Australian blog in 2005 and narrowly lost although there was some contention about the way the judges voted, as on an average it received the highest votes. I believe it is popular due to it’s variety of material published and it contains Claire’s twitter and links to relevant sites.

Sensation….

I made this video using FCP. It contains videos of last new years eve at Sensation White with some of my favourite people I also incorporated some of the still images that were taken that night. I dubbed over it with a track that reminded me of that evening. When I was exporting it I found my final file size was over 800mB… so I had to change some fields and bring the quality of the movie down drastically. I tried to export it to Blip.tv but the file size was too large and 40 minutes later I had still not achieved the desired result. I ended up exporting it as an MPEG4 and changing the frames per second from 30fps to 15fps. I know that this takes away from the final product but I was working with a time limit and I couldn’t wait for 2 hours to upload it, I had already waited for rendering times.

This is my dancing bottle…
Good Friday stuck in a club in Bendigo (Bendi-don’t-go!) supporting a friend who was playing I notices the reverb was causing some very strange effects to my mini water bottle. And before you say “oh you just had too much to drink” I was dead sober…. Probably was just trying to entertain myself and some fellow punters…
I thought it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen, I expected the bottle to be moving up and down, but not side to side and all around, I truly thought my bottle was possessed.

I like the Presets. Call them cheesy, call them sellouts, call them commercial wannabes, i really like them. I have never been disappointed by them, they always put on a good show regardless of which town, city, state, country and they make me want to dance… Yes as cheesy as it sounds, Presets make me smile…
